Audio Direction is the process of overseeing all aspects of sound on a project, from pre-production through delivery.

Sound from start to finish.

Pre-production.

For even the most seasoned content creators, audio remains a mystery. The role of an audio director is to help translate and mediate the needs of the aural experience within a project. This begins at the script. From the start we must identify areas of concern, create efficiencies, and streamline the process. The goal is to meet the budget and raise the quality.

Production.

Every shot is a new opportunity to capture the attention of your audience. Authenticity is the key, and just as you would never choose to replace a live visual performance with CGI, replacing a line with ADR because of a poor capture can be heartbreaking. On set, audio should be as much of a priority as photography, and having an experienced set of ears is the only way to know what you are capturing.

Post.

It’s all in the finish. From the edit through mix, sound can enhance the viewing experience in transformative ways. Music, sound effects, dialog treatment, these are all tools to help tell your story with the most amount of impact. Be it stereo or Dolby Atmos, your Audio Director will see it through to the end, and deliver the best possible product.

Case Studies

Live at Magic Door

I moved with my family to Montclair, NJ in 2016, and upon arriving, we learned that seemingly, 9 out of 10 neighbors were in the media and entertainment industry. Fast forward to 2023, I’ve made life-long friends with a few of those folks, and we decided to put together a live music video series just to prove we could do it all in this town.

In the truest form of what Audiography brings, we planned, produced, and delivered what turned out to be an incredible set of videos, that the artist, Brian Dunne was simply thrilled with.

Spotify SXSW

In 2016, BANG was entrusted to capture, mix, and deliver all 50 artists’ performances, on two stages, for Spotify’s SWSW activation. The live sets were multi-tracked and mixed in the studio, with the resulting content appearing on their service, as well as promotional video content. All of the videos were also mixed and delivered by BANG. Extensive research went into developing the perfect recording solution and meet the tight budgetary restrictions.

Big Green Bus

What happens when you’re asked to create a studio-quality music recording with battery power only? What equipment do you use for capture? How will you treat the mix to match the video? All of this and more was considered, creating truly unique and provocative content. Even budgetary restrictions were addressed, by leveraging sponsorships with major equipment manufacturers, and securing alternative gear new to the market.

Under Cover

When you begin a new podcast, the sky is the limit when it comes to ideas. But, something has to get made, and it needs to be special. For Under Cover, BANG was given exclusive access to the multi-tracks for each artist’s cover song recording, and was trusted to tell a compelling, informative, and often humorous story about what it was like to play a song they didn’t write. From the interview recordings, to the underscore, to the sound design and song breakdown, we worked with our producers to set this project off on the right foot.
